This week's picture is purely a cool photo. This is the start of the third Anaheim SX of 2003 where the start was split on each side of the doghouse: riders on the right went right, riders on the left of the doghouse went left and this is the resulting telephoto shot. After the start, riders had their choice of which way to go afterwards. Cool idea, cool racing and certainly a cool shot!

Edison International Field Ricky Carmichael wins his third race in a row .... James Stewart wins his fourth 125 West event in a row 250's: Ricky Carmichael is truly amazing. The two-time defending supercross champion won his third event in a row tonight. He's leading the 2003 supercross points chase. He's also a three time defending 250 National Champion. A 3-time 125 National Champion. A 125 East supercross champion. Owner of the only 'perfect season' in motocross history, winning 24 motos in a row. Do we really know or appreciate how great this guy is??? Chad Reed was second to RC in the main. A very close second - a half second behind Carmichael at the checkered flag. Chad is second in the point standings as well, nine points behind Carmichael. David Vuillemin didn't get a great start, but he kept pushing, and was there at the end, finishing third. He's tied for third in the point standings with Ezra Lusk, each with 87. Notes: Unique start was used - if you gated on the right hand side, you turned right in the first corner. If you gated on the left hand side, you turned left in the first corner, using a completely different part of the track. A few corners later, the two different sections merged back into the rest of the track. After the first lap, riders could choose to go left or right in that section. (A photo of it is included in the photos at the link below.) 250 World Motocross Champion Mickael Pichon raced. He looked very good in his heat, but pulled off the track in the main event. Tim Ferry rode a two-stroke YZ. Tim also pulled off in the main after falling. Mike LaRocco fell in the main, and pulled off the track. Event was sold out - 45,050 people. 125's: James Stewart, the 17 year old phenom, won his fourth race in a row tonight. He's been so far out in front, it's almost like he's riding in a class by himself. He also leads the point standings. James dedicated his win to all the families of the Columbia Space Shuttle tragedy. Travis Preston finished second in the main. Much like David Vuillemin, he didn't have the greatest start, but kept pushing. He's 28 points behind Stewart for the title chase. Eric Sorby finished third. |
