About Me: Ed Ariniello, I love to ride hard, ride with my family, and friends – a few years back a friend brought home a couple quads, I tried them out and now between all of us we have about 30 quads and motorcycles. I also love camping, hunting, fishing, the gym, Tae Kwon Do, visiting new places, meeting new people, making new friends, leading and developing people. Essentially I like squeezing every moment out of life or helping others get there!
My favorite riding areas: Starvation Ridge, Fort Rock, Browns Camp, Goldendale and the Dunes. Washougal will sometime be my love - up to now it has just beat me up and I intend to beat it back.
My first bike: First dream was when I was new to Oregon at age 10, though not really fulfilled until I was 41 it has kept alive all this time. My first ride or take off was on a YZ490 back when I was 20 or so, shortly after a street bike my brother had - he had given me permission to ride it whenever I wanted, not knowing he had pulled the brake pads and was working on it, I took it for a ride to my semi-local watering hole one night, the rest was embarrassing. Being very cool, as I pulled up to the line of people waiting to get in and found out I had no brakes. At about age 38 I purchased an old '82 YZ250 to rebuild, after a couple years of staring at it and working on it, I got it to work, but only no go and a rocketing go speed. My first real deal was about 3 years ago I bought a kid's KX125 - rode it until I could stay on it and start it in any position up at Browns Camp.
When
I first started riding:
My
riding really started 3 years ago touring Browns Camp and a few other close
areas. Much of my riding was with my wife and Daughter on an Ex250 and me and
my son on my KX 125 or with a couple OMRA guys on 400's that I swear would never
lose me and my 125 (mind you I'm about 230lbs,) they never did.
My riding experience: Wild! My experience can almost hardly be called such, it includes several years of Browns Camp and the Trask riding areas, a few years of racing the OMRA GP /XC program. Of course about 1/3 of my training program includes riding my quad out on the dunes or in the woods.
My favorite Saying: Winning is an attitude - win or lose - "Winners are not a sometime thing, winners are an all time thing" (Vince Lombardi), so adapt, improvise, innovate and ride hard!
Why I became an OMRA officer: I believe in our sport, I believe to ensure the right things are taken care of, served and protected people must stand up, make that statement, take personal responsibility and the commitments necessary to the best of their ability. Some people can give a moment some a lifetime - every moment counts. I am not a great detail person, but people around me tell me they appreciate my participation and leadership and so - here I am to do what I can do, when I can do it to the best level I can.
I'd also like to say: We must all stand together for one cause or belief when we are focused on our sport and recreation - be it rocks, roots, ruts, puddles, mud, sand, racing, poker runs, dualsporting, cross country or anything that can be ridden while respecting the outdoors we love. We must all contribute what we can when we can. The greatest challenge and our sports demise will be when people, ordinary people, do not realize that the moment, hour, day or weekend they can give, together, to better our sport can and will make a difference. As an example, today I can give a little more than yesterday and maybe more than tomorrow, but I will give it all I have.
