About me:
I have
been riding motorcycles since I was 3 years old and have never had more fun in
my life doing anything else. I did my first race in 1996 and it kind of took off
from there. Now racing is pretty much my life outside of school and my Wife, and
I wouldn’t have it any other way. A few injuries have sidelined me in the past,
but nothing could keep me from the sport I love.
My favorite riding area:
Tillamook
State Forest, specifically Diamond Mill. The Devil’s Head ISDE in 2009 was a
dream race for me. Gifford Pinchot NF, Hodgy’s Place.
My first bike/ATV:
A 1990
Yamaha PW 50. That thing was awesome and I still remember the day my dad took
the throttle restrictor off. I felt like I could win any race that day.
When I first started riding:
The first
real ride I did was at China Hat back in 1990. I don’t remember much from that
day, but from watching the video I can see that it was a perfect day. It must
have rained the day before because the dirt was epic with no dust to be found.
My riding experience:
After I
started riding when I was little, almost all of my memories are of me and my dad
riding on the easier trails at Brown’s Camp. After I got a little better we
moved down the highway to Diamond Mill and I can still remember the first time I
rode a real “Enduro” trail. From there it was basically riding every weekend
whether it was snowy, rainy, sleet or 100 degrees. We got in some tight spots
from time to time when I was on the little bikes. We got so cold at times we
wondered if we were going to have to ditch my bike and have Dad ride me back,
but we’re still here today and I’m thankful for all those crazy rides because I
think it has helped make me into the rider I am today. Now I focus almost
entirely on racing and play riding whenever I can, and enjoy every second of it.
My favorite saying:
“We
can make it”. Those are the famous words always spoken by my Dad right before we
do some crazy trail adventure somewhere in the Tillamook.
Why I became an OMRA Officer:
There has
been a ton of great discussion over the years on how to make the OMRA a better
organization, and I felt I needed to help out to achieve the goals we are aiming
for. In the short time I’ve been really involved, I have found it to be
extremely rewarding to give back to the sport that has done so much for me.
I'd also like to say:
Get
involved with a club or helping out with the OMRA any way you can. It doesn’t
have to be carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders, but even the
smallest help is greatly appreciated. You will find that being involved with the
decision making is a great responsibility, and it can be very rewarding.
